She Turns Her Privilege Into Purpose

She Turns Her Privilege Into Purpose
Why is life so unfair?
She thought when she was small
The others get their house painted
And what they want they get it all
Why are my parents so unfair?
They’re taking me abroad
A better life they say to us
I think they’re just so cruel
Why is life so unfair?
And scary too at times
She got quite cross and made a fuss
She cried and she did whine
And then she grew a little bit
She started looking ‘round
Why are they not wearing shoes
And begging on the ground
She started to think differently
About all that she had
And over time she changed her mind
And regretfully felt bad
She noticed the discrepancies
Disparity and greed
And wondered what on earth went wrong
So many mouths to feed
She thought about the little ways
That she could make a difference
And realised that she had more
And how much she was privileged
Although she did not have a lot
Her gratitude shone through
And as she got older she thought about
The things that she could do
Along the way she honed her skills
Her talents she did practice
So when opportunities arrived
She was ready to take action
She shared her passions with the world
The best that she could do
And gave as much as anyone
Who wanted to do good too
There was a balance she did not see
Or take much notice of
But when she shared her gifts with love
She fulfilled and happy was
And then she grew some more and found
Her world came crashing down
She felt like she had lost her mind
Desperation all around
She wallowed for a little while
Until death came calling close
With a shock, she knew again
That she had more than most
At that moment, at that time
She made a promise, vow, decree
That if she made it through and lived
She’d give herself to find a way
To make the world a better place
To make the whole world see
That there was a different way
To have, to share, to be
She searched until she found herself
Full up and ready give
Her purpose she did find that day
A wonderful way to live
And as her happy reappeared
She wished the people know
That there is no need for privilege
If you find your purpose road
So if you are one of the ones
Who have the means, ability
To find your purpose, find your way
Make it your priority
For there are those who are without
Their differences are seen
Unfortunate but not enough
For them worthy be
And yet if you are kind of heart
You know that this is not true
You can do your bit of work
Let your privilege purpose through
Then, if there’s enough of us
To rise and make the change
That minding our own purpose helped
Privilege will never be the same
