She Must Rest — A Woman On Purpose poem image

She Must Rest

She Must Rest

My war paint running down my face
Mascara mixed with the saltiness of my tears as I watch the world around me crumble
I won’t surrender
Yet I know that I must rest

Energy is drained from my limbs as my soul is crushed with heaviness of what I have endured
I am weak
I will not surrender
I know that I must rest

I am silenced by the numbness in my head
Unable to connect with emotions
Keeping me safe
Whilst I rebuild
I cannot surrender
But I have to get some rest

I cannot fight a battle from an empty spirit
I cannot win a war without the artillery of a warriors heart
I cannot save the broken being only a shell of the bullet I know I shall become once again
So although I won’t surrender
I shall rest

Let others carry burdens whilst I lie here
And whilst I do recover, gain respite
I trust that when you need a little self love
And some pause time
You’ll not surrender
You’ll only take the time to rest
